Celebrations and Dolphins

Hello again everyone,

Sorry that it has been a while but things have been busy around the house here getting things ready for school that starts on Groundhog Day. People here only know about the movie so I think Mr. Williams is planning to fill them in next week.

Monday was Australia Day (similar to our Canada Day). We went down to the village square and observed some of the activities. There were a number of speeches, the Australian National Anthem and a free breakfast.

Later on in the week, I was invited to go with Mr. Williams to a team building event with the other staff but I opted not to go. I don't do too well in the water and he went swimming with the dolphins. He was holding onto a rope with one hand that was pulling him along with the dolphins, and with the other hand, he was trying to take pictures as the dolphins were swimming underneath and around him.

The weather was perfect (40 degrees in the city but much cooler on the water). Meetings started this week and he is looking foward to his return to school on Monday.

Be sure to write back. I hear you have had a little bit of snow and some snow days. Is that true? Wish all the best to Mr. Schneider for me!

Tasmania - A Moose's Perspective

Hello Everyone,

I have continued to travel with the Williams family and joined them last week on their trip to Tasmania. We met
up with the Walker family and then traveled over 1100 km across the island.

We started by arriving in Hobart where they spent a few days in the mountains. Here is a picture I took of them from the top of Mt Wellington which overlooks the city of Hobart and Islands to south as far as Port Arthur.
We spent a couple of days in Port Arthur. It used to be a site where convicts were sent from England, Australia and even Canada. Prisoners were as young as four and were sent for crimes from pic-pocketing to murder (all in the same building).

We then drove to the north end of the island to hike a the famous Cradle Mountain. People say it looks like a baby lying in a cradle. (It looks like a moose to me... but I am biased.)

We then drove to the beautiful east coast to the Bay of Fires. It was a significant area for the Aboriginal people and their ceremonies (the rocks were stained orange and red). We also hiked into Wineglass Bay (two hours each way). The water was amazing as was the beach. Thanks Mrs. Hawn for suggesting this amazing sight. Not much planned for the near future but Mr. Williams will be going into Somerville Primary School on Monday.

Will write again soon,
Clyde

Creatures

Yes, it has been almost a week but we are now settled into our new home in Mt. Eliza, Australia. There have been many experiences and adventures so far. The 29 hours of flight time and 4 hour wait time in airports, repacking luggage to fit, swimming on New Year's Eve at the local beach, feeding free roaming kangaroos and wallabys, observing lazy koalas and getting used to the 25 degree weather again.

There will be many more adventures as the year progresses. Be sure to follow Clyde on his journeys as he joins our family throughout our travels. Comment if you like...
